System Requirements

All Fireside Analytics coursework is completed using browser-based tools. No software installation is required, but students must have access to a computer and internet connection that meet the following minimum specifications prior to enrollment.

Internet Connection
A stable broadband connection (wired, WiFi, or 4G/5G) is required. Mobile hotspots may be used but are not recommended for long sessions.

Audio and Video
A working microphone and speakers (built-in, USB, or Bluetooth)
A built-in or USB webcam compatible with web conferencing platforms like Zoom

Supported Operating Systems
macOS 10.15 or later
Windows 10 or later
Ubuntu Linux 18.04 or higher
Chromebooks with modern browser support are acceptable for most tasks

Web Browser
Latest version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari
Browser must support web-based programming environments like Google Colab or JupyterLite
Internet Explorer is not supported

Recommended Hardware
Processor: Dual-core 2.0 GHz or higher (Intel i3/i5/i7, Apple M1/M2, or AMD equivalent)
RAM: Minimum 4 GB, 8 GB recommended for best performance with AI-supported features

AI Considerations
Some course features may include browser-based access to AI-powered tools (e.g., code generation or explanation). No AI installation is required, but your browser and internet speed should support smooth real-time interaction with these tools.

Computer competencies

You should be able to:

To succeed in this course, students must demonstrate basic digital literacy and confidence using common software and internet tools. Specifically, students should be able to:

  • Use word processing software to create, edit, format, and save documents

  • Navigate their computer’s operating system (Windows or macOS), including the ability to organize files, save and retrieve documents, and manage folders

  • Access and manage email, including reading, replying, and organizing messages

  • Log in to the internet using a stable connection (WiFi or broadband)

  • Use a modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) to navigate the internet, access web-based platforms, and interact with online course content

  • Send, receive, and open attachments such as PDFs, Word documents, and images

  • Download files from the internet and locate them on your device

  • Conduct internet searches using tools like Google or Bing to find credible information

Backups and Equipment Failure
Students are responsible for regularly backing up their own data and identifying an alternate computer or internet connection in case of equipment or network failure.
